GRAU team’s well-crafted cinematography work elevates the first frame of the film and intrigues the audience to watch the film in a mood, “What is happening? Who is the stranger?”
The way the protagonist introduces himself as Richard to the anonymous call in the night reveals his confidence in his self-being and presence of mind in the call. A stranger portrays himself as a journalist to Richard, digs the interest of an author in the midnight, promises he would show him interesting stuff. Richard is in a luxury life, with a care-free attitude, and a decent writer. He is busy with his marketing consultant in a phone call to confirm the launch date of his book.
As an audience when we thought Richard goes to the place where he works there, the film takes a turn. Richard meets the mid-night journalist who promised him he would show an interesting thing. A breakpoint of where Richard is in an affair with the journalist’s wife, a little piece of guessing takes you to the conclusion in a pivotal representation. A filmy screen presence is necessary for suspense, thriller & dark films.
The journalist’s request to pass the saltbox, Richard’s ignorance to the journalist till he shows Richard his wife’s image with him, Journalist’s blood-soaked shirt at the end is the ideal making done by the Director.
Akshay Padmanaba’s Debut Direction is just awesome with an unbelievable fact, this film is being his debut film. Cinematography, Editing & DI by Ishaan Murali set the mood to the dark film with the engaging frames needed for the film. Sound Design is executed well by Seven Media. A film’s professional making and director’s touch can be found when the film is equipped with pre-eminent sound designing and vivid representation of cinematography. However, this film is completely unconvinced to us with the amateur performance of the artist. Out-of-league performance and unsuiting English language as a primary language of the film doesn’t sit in the chair of a complete entertainer but wins the show with measured run time.
GRAU is absolute camera magic and director’s style film. Dark does not ever reside in dark. When light falls on the dark, ugly desire is sentenced to death.
