Appreciation and the Critic:

First, I need to congratulate the Azhiya Vadu Tamil Short Film crew for making this film. It was so comfortable, and the visuals are so attractive which made me not lose focus on the film. The film was shot with a feature for quality and every frame was attractive. Congratulations to the director SivaPrasad for making a good film. The story and the plot were interesting. As an audience, I’m not finding it difficult to comprehend the story. I think the success of a story is that it should reach the audience. I can surely say this story reached the audience without any disturbance or lag in the scenes. Congratulations to the producer Aananth Sivaguru for producing such a wonderful film. By seeing the crew and the film, it shows how much Aananth would have shown his interest in making this Azhiya Vadu Tamil Short Film.

This film has an interesting screenplay that attracts the audience and makes them watch the film with suspense till the end. bringing the audience into the story is a very challenging task and this film crew has done it.

This is a story of a female protagonist who tries to get justice for her daughter and husband. In the beginning, the story shows a few cases and petitions which are pending, and the commissioner was talking about their pending cases. Next, the story moves to the protagonist and the situation in which the protagonist and her daughter were. Also, this story has an antagonist and the story travels between the protagonist and antagonist. Though the film has few uneasy things, it is a great film to watch.

Right from the beginning I was so surprised and attracted to the frames and lighting of the film. The drone shots and the lighting of the streets, the way it was shot, and every frame was attractive and detailing too. I can see that the cinematographer Raj was so passionate about frames. The frame which in the beginning shot under the car and the frame which focused on the pencil stand at the beginning and later on the child was so attractive and I felt like I’m watching a feature film. I can surely say if the script contributed 50% to this film, frames also contributed 50% to this film.

I like the title design and the animation in it. It looked super professional and attractive.

In the beginning, there comes a scene where the police officer salutes and speaks to his higher authority. But the frame was like he was talking to us. Here, I was not satisfied with the scene. Because the dialogues are like talking to the higher authority and the frame is directed towards the audience and the person is speaking literally to the camera. If the person is speaking towards the camera the dialogue should complement the frame. If the person is speaking to the camera it means the person wants to speak with the audience. But the dialogues are not complimenting the frame. I would be happy if the frame was a bit apart from his eye and he should have executive the dialogue facing somewhere.

Then the story of the child, father, and mother. The protagonist’s mother was taking care of her bedridden, injured girl. The frame shows us that the girl was injured by having a neckband. So, we will get a question about why the girl is wearing a medical neckband. There comes the explanation in the next scene. The accident scene was good. The film has another strong element which is dubbing. The dubbing part was very interesting and as an audience, I can hear the dialogues without any interruption and suits perfectly. The scene where the girl says that she has a surprise for her father and immediately they both meet with an accident was very emotional. The echo and reverb effect before the accident lifted the emotion in this scene. The plot starts after this accident scene and another character will come inside this story which is the lawyer. In between the protagonist says that her daughter is facing unknown health issues and even she doesn’t know what is happening to her.

Suddenly the Azhiya Vadu Tamil Short Film shows another scene where the protagonist was narrating her story to the lawyer on the terrace. On the terrace, sitting on the table opposite to each other with white bright light from down. Then the story shows that the protagonist was in the hospital and discussing with the doctor her daughter’s health issues. They will be discussing treatment and planning to take blood samples and test them. So, till that the protagonist was so confused and was thinking about her daughter the whole day.

Then again, in the terrace shot, where the story moves to its next storyline, the protagonist wants to act on this matter. She wants to make clear what happened to her daughter in the hospital and the lawyer also will be discussing the legal thing about the case. Then we can predict that during the blood fusion, she might have gotten any disease. Then, frames show that the protagonist was walking out of the hospital and her papers will fall in front of a car. Here the director has left a hint to us that the car’s front area has some blood kind of stains. We cannot at the beginning itself say it as blood. So, we can predict that as blood and the blood should be her husband’s blood when the car met an accident. Then, when the protagonist is at home, she’ll receive a call to meet the lawyer again in the coffee shop. They will again discuss the case and how to get it notified to the court and ask justice for her daughter. So, we may think that the whole idea of the film is to explain to us(the audience) the medical crimes. But as you noticed, the director was leaving a hint about the main theme of the story. There comes the next scene wherein the TV it was the Annamalai challenging Ashok scene. Here, the dialogue was “Dhrogi” and in the next frame, he shows the lawyer. So that is where we can predict that this film is something about the lawyer and the protagonist. As they are the ones who are discussing the terrace.

Later, the lawyer tried harder to find the clues to make this case official. Later, the protagonist says that her daughter is a drawing artist. Then the lawyer found the person who donated his blood to the hospital and informed him of the protagonist. So, side by side, every suspense is coming to untie. Later the daughter will draw the car and its number and when the protagonist searches it on the internet the name will be the same. But we may think this is the climax. The protagonist carries a gun and tries to shoot the person who donated blood, and he is the one who hit his husband with his car. She was aiming at him; the screen goes blank and we may think she shot him. But she wasn’t. We may think, to take care of her child, she refused to shoot him, but it is not the truth. The lawyer is the one who is playing a double game with the protagonist from the accident. Then the frame shows that the lawyer was also in the car when it met the accident. So, the lawyer was the accused who is trying to distract the case from the accident to medical crime cases. In the climax, the protagonist will shoot the lawyer on the terrace itself. She found the lawyer’s ID in front of the car where she picked the papers in the hospital scene. Here, I cannot accept how an ID card will be there under the car until the protagonist picks it up. I felt like the clue was a very easy and open clue. The team should have thought of any other clue instead of an ID card or the ID card must be somewhere and not under the card. I felt like the clue was not suitable for the scene. Another hint that the director left is when the protagonist kept the gun inside the cupboard, but she suddenly thought something and again picked it and placed it outside. So, we can assume that her task to shoot the accused is not yet done. So she is placing it outside again. These are all the details and hints that the director keeps on producing for us.

Then, we can see the petitions which the police speak about in the beginning will be considered and take necessary action on the respective hospitals. I like the conclusion and the suspense part of this story. But the imposing two negatives on the same antagonist was a bit uncomfortable to comprehend the story properly. The lawyer is trying to distract the case from the accident, but later he is the one who tells the name of the person who donated blood, which is the same person who did the accident. I was a bit confused why the lawyer wants to save the person and later reveals him. So, I would be happy if there were any other dialogues with the self-explanatory element.

Speaking about the editing, it was so good, Bobin Thambu’s cuts are very precise. Only one area where the protagonist takes the record in the hospital where I felt it was a second delay in the cut. Throughout the movie, nowhere the cuts were disturbing the flow in the script.

Speaking about the background score, Dhinakaran had done a very good job. The music complimented the screen and the screen presence was satisfying with the music. If not for the music, the scene would have not lifted this much. I can also see that this film used Foley and congratulations to the foley artists.

Speaking about the DI, I’m so satisfied with Anil Krish’s DI and the color. Though the DI was at its best, the frequent scene where the protagonist and lawyer were speaking on the terrace, I felt Anil should have reduced the exposure to the light. The light was disturbing for me as an audience whenever the scene came.

All the artists and their acting skills and the dubbing part are very good. The acting of the protagonist was extraordinary and also the daughter character. The film has its professional way of exhibiting and everyone’s skill contributed to export it as a professional short film. This film has the quality to be a feature film too. The crew had worked very hard and I could see so many people working behind the scenes. Congratulations to everyone who worked on this film. I wish to see more scripts like this script and wish the team should continue and reach more heights.
