About Broken But Beautiful Hindi Web Series

Understanding the core

Broken But Beautiful web series is a story that focuses on romance, healing, heartbreaks, second chances, and pain.

Admiration and Criticism

Broken But Beautiful Hindi Web Series is a wonderful portrayal of an emotional rollercoaster, starring the ever-talented Vikrant Massey and elegant Harleen Sethi as its lead characters Veer and Sameera. Ekta Kapoor has created a well-versed storyline that revolves around Veer’s coping with his huge personal loss through his wife’s death and Sameera’s fight with moving on from the assumed love of her life. Veer tragically lost his wife three years back due to a fatal car accident, and he has been suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) ever since. His PTSD has made him extremely ill-tempered and he tends to lose his anger over any trivial matter. He also hallucinated his dead wife, Alina and in the beginning, the viewers aren’t revealed that Alina was actually Veer’s hallucination, and the storytelling deserves applause for that subtle shock that the show is able to provide right in the middle of its very first episode. Veer has also lost his emotional connection with almost everyone, and due to this, he has always been caught up with forgettable one-night stands which his former sister-in-law Ishaanvi, despises. Ishaanvi tries to help Veer and keeps reprimanding him of his current lifestyle. She considered that it’s only a matter of time when Veer’s life will itself eat him up. She kept persuading Veer to move on from Alina, as it’s the only reason why Veer is destroying his life. The relationship portrayed between Veer and Ishaanvi is very sweet, as it showed a brother-sister connection even when the relationship doesn’t have any name any longer. Ishaanvi’s husband Adil also pushed Veer to move on. The couple also blamed Veer’s home as the main factor for his failure in moving on. Veer’s house was left amid the construction and he still lived there so as to keep Alina in his memories. Alina was herself designing the interiors of the house, and with her passing away, the house was left unfinished.  Left with a broken heart, Veer still lived in that same unfinished house and that house was mainly considered the source of Veer’s hallucination of Alina.

Finally Veer has to vacate the house due to some legal issues and Adil reminds him that Veer’s cousin Kartik was selling his house and he was looking for a suitable buyer. Kartik was all happy to sell off his house to Veer, and he did not even ask for the legal process to get over for Veer to move in. Upon moving in, Veer asked Kartik for the legal documents but Kartik ensured him that the documents will be settled in time. Upon Veer’s further requests, Kartik reasoned that the house had been bought by him and his ex-girlfriend together, and in order to settle the selling procedure, Kartik’s ex-girlfriend also had to sign the documents as proof of her agreement. Kartik called his ex-girlfriend a psycho, as Sameera who was in heels over love with Kartik, still hasn’t able to move on from their breakup which happened 8 months back. After moving into his new house, Veer realized that Alina’s ghost had vanished from existence and he finally confirmed that his previous house was the only factor for such hallucinations. But such a realization didn’t really cheer up Veer as he believed that he has returned back to normal. He was going to be sad now, as sadness was the new normal for him. The hallucinations had kept him in a distorted reality where he found happiness in seeing Alina, but with Alina gone even as a ghost, Veer has to go through depression only (rather he accepted the fact that he was depressed). In order to escape from these depths of sadness, Veer visited a pub where he planned to spend his evening drinking.

In the pub, Veer met with a woman who had mistaken him for her tinder date, and there’s an instance of hilarity when her actual tinder date arrived and she acted like she didn’t know him at all. Veer and the woman made their way into his home for the night and looking into a night of pleasure, Veer found someone intruding his house. That’s when Sameera, Kartik’s ex-girlfriend gets revealed for the first time in the show. Sameera had a spare key into the house, and she suspiciously made way into the house as she was unable to find Kartik anywhere near that house. Sameera had huge issues with moving on, and failing to move on from her previous breakup, she used to stalk Kartik. This was possibly the reason why Kartik wanted to sell the house off, as he had already moved in with his new girlfriend and the presence of his ex-girlfriend was proving to be an intolerable hindrance for his new life. With Sameera’s entry, the first episode drew to an end.

Ekta Kapoor has done a commendable job of creating a show dealing with such a delicate matter. She makes sure that the viewers suffer through a few gasps of surprises as the scene of Alina’s death and the buildup was totally successful in not giving the viewers any anticipation that the scene was itself dealing with Alina’s death. As a viewer I thought that the scene was just showing Veer’s trouble of hallucinations and hence I slowly realize that it was actually a flashback. The director hits gold by timing the accident scene perfectly. This scene also showed us why Veer blamed himself for his wife’s death, as it was only because of a mere argument while traveling in their car when this accident occurred. I would also like to compliment the director in portraying the death with a relevant buildup. It was not just a random accident. The argument seemed to be something trivial which usually occurs between couples, but Alina was too dejected with Veer and she wanted to step out of the car. Upon telling off Veer to stop the car, Veer was obviously not going to abandon his wife on an empty road at night, and he wasn’t going to stop. Alina went on to remove her seatbelts, which further distracted Veer from his driving, and as a result, he didn’t notice that another car had come up in their way. With seatbelts unfastened, the collision killed Alina and I was in fact moved by this scene as such an accident could happen with anyone in real life. Hence, kudos to the actors, the director, the scriptwriter, and the screenplay director for portraying this scene with near perfection.

Vikrant Massey does a splendid job of portraying a distraught man trying to pretend with moving on. Although his acting did lack a bit of emotional depth as much the character demanded but he still played his part pretty well. However, some of the background actors with minimal yet substantial scenes did seem a bit rigid.

The direction has been wonderful throughout, and even though I mentioned of the car accident scene, I would still expect the director to try laying focus on the background of the show as well. Broken But Beautiful Hindi Web Series scenes which could have made a better grasp laid below the expectations as it, in general, it wasn’t supposed to be very important. But such trivial scenes make a show enhanced with quality if performed with near perfection, and the director could have laid more focus in them.

The music is really enthralling. The opening intro score is melodious but the background score in some scenes could have been better. The broken But Beautiful Hindi Web Series scene involving Veer and Ishaanvi was supposed to be both serious and funny, it oscillates between both the emotion and I think had the background score been better, this scene would have reached perfection.

The screenplay and the lighting could have been better, as scenes with darkness seemed difficult to understand. However Veer’s hallucination has been perfectly blended with his real life, and I would like to praise the screenplay director for it. The viewers would require to keep guessing whether the hallucinations were in fact reality due to the timing.

Personally, I liked the plot of the show very much. The plot was unique in Indian features as mental health isn’t being given the right amount of focus in this country. The pain of letting someone go and dealing with a loved one’s death is something each and every one of us would have gone through at some point in our respective lives and hence this series hits gold in carving out such a storyline. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a very harmful mental disease that can destroy a person. And viewers get a whiff of what can really happen when someone suffers from PTSD. The hallucination scenes which the show portray is also the X-factor as the viewers are kept at their edge of their seats throughout the episode.
