Mazhalai Inidhu is a must-watch equilibrium of motherhood, childhood, and parenthood with a coming-of-age performance. Written & Directed by Gopinath Mohanrao.

“குழல்இனிது யாழ்இனிது என்பதம் மக்கள் மழலைச்சொல் கேளா தவர்.”

“Kuzhal Inidhu Yaazhinidhu Enpadham Makkal Mazhalaichchol Kelaa Thavar.”

Kural 66, from the world-famous Tamil maxim Thirukkural, holds the entire story of the film Mazhalai Inidhu. What is explained by Thiruvalluvar in a two-line is a little journey lived, filmed, acted by the team. Whether you are being a movie lover or not is a matter before this film. Neglect noticing the duration and enjoy the hard-hitting innocence of the lives in the film. I swear it will drive you to an extent to watch it.

Story of the film:

The biased mind of family and work is the core of the film. Divya (Meesha Goshal), a young charming HR in one of the Software Companies in an urban area, thinks she leads a happy life with her male kid Rohit (Master. Ashwin Anand) and lovable though understanding husband Balaji (Rajesh Dev). When things are being in a position of chess in her office, Kavipriya,

a co-worker, working under her team brings a change in her life with a quarrel. Being working women as the protagonist of the film, this film doesn’t speak about feminism to hold. Instead, it speaks the womanism on a linear scale to uphold the duties of her sex. A flower is a flower when it has a group of petals. Alike, every individual’s character roams on the screen and has a little story to say something to us. One of the workers unsaid love to his co-worker, mother-in-law kind of affection on her son, little kid’s life with his playschool, husband’s balancing as well as biasing settle of mind on his wife and mom, few female character’s lethargy being and few of being responsible, every characters’ arc is designed perfectly to pack the film with engrossing elements.

Take over of the film:

Divya’s disciplined parenting to her son as well as to her husband adds charm to the story as well as to us. Balaji’s capability of handling the family, like pleasing his wife to be calm in front of his mom, do rangolis, playful retort to his son adds handsomely to his character arc.

Sponsored tamil short film teaser from Shortfundly OTT:

Divya’s initial annoyance on hearing the words of her kid’s playschool teacher on her importance to her child, mother-in-law’s breakdown of womanhood discipline, Rohit’s yearning question toward his mom are the fastest take-off one after another to wait for their league of philosophy mixed content film. Kavipriya’s strong disapproval of that she was being a right mother to her child than Divya to Divya herself is turbulence in Divya’s life. Confused mind due to colleagues, pressured mind due to office work lead her to become villainous to her son Rohit.

What’s with the film, Mazhalai Inidhu:

It is neither a simple story nor a usual story that is the highlight of the film. Mazhalai Inidhu can easily grab the non-movie lover too into the film in whatever scene one has started watching the film. The presence of making gives justice to the brilliant writing. Without proper writing, perfect making cannot bring in. But, they did. Husband’s character is the finest character I have seen in recent times. His needs and attitude are explained in a single scene through his pathetic look, bruting anger and calm behaviour. Kavipriya character initially brings an oscillation to our mind. As who we have to support. Either to Kavipriya, she is sound but righteous and her own self of moral, or to Divya, she is the professional, perfect woman to the society (but not to her child), prestigious and her own self of moral. The end has an equal choice in everybody’s mind.

Critic’s view and Appreciation:

If you are a short filmmaker, watch Mazhalai Inidhu. You can learn a lot. Writer, rewrite, make it, make it perfectly at last. First and the biggest credit must be given to the Writer & Director of the film, Gopinath Mohanrao to shoulder the film. Short Film making is not such an easy task. As an aspiring filmmaker, I can look through the difficulties they faced in the journey of this film.

Arnold Samson’s Editing never makes us a single moment of boredom. It is a huge bonus to the film. The cinematography of K.Magesh Kumar shows what is needed for the film, what the character wants. It ever revolves around the zone of the film. J.C.Joe, as a composer he connects the movie with the audience. Musicless life is a loveless life. So good music can easily connect anybody to anyone.

Kudos to the artists Meesha Goshal, Sweta Harish, Rajesh Dev, Umasshankar, Pradeep Kumar Yellogi, Krishnaveni Gopal, Shaktivel Vedagiri, Pushkala Mahadevan, VetriSelvi, Vishaka Nair, Arul Murugan, Jennifer Chrisilda Gomez, Mukesh Garg, Andy Naylor, Raghavan, Hari Krishna Kakollu, Saravanan Master.Ashwin Anand and finally Baby.Dharshini Murali.

Meesha Goshal has every potential to make over a strong female lead in a feature film. Overall Mazhalai Inidhu is a short film everyone has to watch. Nothing is late, never regret is an invisible talk of the film. Being with a kid wholeheartedly can make you turn into a kid again.
