About Neeras Action Thriller Short Film:
Understanding the core of this film: Assumption and riddle of a protagonist towards the audience

First of all, we all have to understand art can be in any form. For cinema, it needs not to be in a designed way. One of the most admirable art forms is the Abstract form. Neeras Action Thriller Short Film is one of its kind. I see this film as an abstract film. There is no montage, no songs, no VFX, no focuses, even no motion. It is like seeing a slideshow with sound effects and with a story.
We can see, throughout the film, the protagonist from the beginning is narrating a story, or we can call it as an assumption, like what if the guns are real, what if guns are fake, what if the hero is playing, what if the killer is get caught. So from the beginning, the person wanted us to be in a dilemma about the story. Though it is 10.10 minutes short film, the way of innovation of presenting is quite admirable. The normal audience won’t understand this film at first sight. It will take another round to understand this film. Okay, why the audience needs to understand this film? Because we are in a mindset where cinema is in a designed art. Neeras, a 10 mins short film will allow us to experience a new level of movie-watching.
Coming to the story, the first time when the protagonist introducing himself as a professional killer and the film goes on like he is chasing someone with guns. Here we think about why a professional killer wants to kill with a dummy fake gun. Some captures showing he is using fake guns and chasing someone. And at the next narration, “what if the guns are fake” will make justice to the fake guns. The protagonist is playing with fake guns because of a lack of assignment. So there he starts to assume the scenes one by one. No one knows how the protagonist and the targets look like. At the climax, he will reveal.
Music for this movie is just a metal drum and scored whenever showing the guns. I would have enjoyed it even more if the drum beats have collaborated with the gun firing frames. It looked like the sound of the gun firing. I appreciate the ideology of the t-shirt slogan “Hired for every bullet fired” make sense for the character of the protagonist. Another important element is that this story has an antagonist.
The frames are very normal mobile photography frames. But few frames for example, whenever he is dropping the gun, shooting the gun when he shot by a cop, and falling are at their best. It shows the director wants to make it as detailed shots. I appreciate for explaining the message of this story at the end. Because for 2.30 hrs films, we don’t need to conclude a movie by giving a message, but for a short film, moreover, for this film form particularly, a message is mandatory to remind and register. I appreciate for conclusion by giving a message. This way of movie-making is another new way to experience a story.
No VFX, no DI, no different range mixed background scores, no more characters, simple elements, low budget, a good assumption, and riddle movie for 10 mins. Neeras, is a good time pass and abstract art to admire.
At the same time, I’m not sure what if the film continues more than 10 mins. It will make the audience monotonous. Because no one wants to see a slideshow of someone’s story. Frames are good, but not that effective to express the wow factor. So the main advantage and the disadvantage is that its length. Providing subtitles is also a good move to roam the film all over the world.
In conclusion, Neeras is a good short film and abstract art. Not everyone will admire it, but people who want to experience a new atmosphere in movie-watching will love to review this film.
