Ivalum Iyalum is a magical U-turn to the road of love by a phone-call, last drive, etc. Written & Directed by Sathiesh S

Story of the film:

Living in the character is the art of Acting. To prove the show, this film was made with only two protagonists and the two put their soul into the character of the film. Shri and Mithra are a couple who decided on a mutual divorce. Taking off in the film, Shri is perceived to do so by his wife Mithra. A night call melodrama takes time to get into the depth of the characterization. When Mithra appears on the screen, she records her annoyance toward her husband and Shri appears on the screen, he strongly records his yearning for his wife. 80’s music playing in the background does not get you to the world of melancholy.

Take over of the film:

Before the hearing on the court for the couple’s divorce, Shri requests the last meeting to have with his wife Mithra. Instead of giving him ample time she decides to talk during the drive to the bus station with her husband canceling her taxi. Ivalum Iyalum convinces the male character has been inspired by the Tamil movie Vinnaithandi Varuvaya as the song Ooney Uyire Unakkaga Thudithen… starts playing on the FM it sings while they talk. A short meeting of requests from Shri takes a U-turn as Mithra’s little desire of staying in his home for adjourning to the court the next morning.

What’s with the film, Ivalum Iyalum:

As an audience, there are a lot of interjections to be cleared to understand the melodrama henning between the two odd souls as said earlier, gets a clear way for the travel. Mithra’s question of “Why does the home look so untidy & dirty… the cigarette buds can be seen every corner?” (Veeta yenda ivlo kuppaiyaa vachirks… enga paathalum Cigarette kuppaiya iruku?)

“There’s no time to clean. As I use home only to sleep at night.” (Clean panradhukellam neram, night thoonga mattum dhan veetuku varen. Apo apdi dhana irukum!)

A home is beautiful when women take control is the unsaid context they are delivering by their romantic talk. Shri’s food order delivery not only surprises Mithra but also us. At the end of the dinner, old photographs bring a shape to the film. Mithra is melodiously forced by her parents to marry Shri. Mithra could not get over her past. As to not affect her life along with Shri she compelled him to get out of this marriage. All Shri could have in his heart was unconditional love for her.

A box not unveiling the worst stuff of Mithra is the new treatment enjoyed in this film. Parallelly, where the protagonist is traveling in the car, where to reach, the beginning phone call about the whereabouts has not done a clear representation. As a commercial film, it is not essential to concentrate on the part. But, if the director has corrected the misjoined puzzles it would be great.

Critic’s view and Appreciation:

Let us take a moment to appreciate the Cinematography & DI of the film, done by Goutham Ganesh. A night cannot be bright, this rule has been broken here. You can get into the screen as you are living the film. Excellent adjustment of light works, angle, needed Colour grading made this film lively for the watch. Adithya Suresh by Background Music work executed the chemistry between the music and camera work and Music and Editing by Prem Subramaniam. Bala’s Sound Design completed the film as the best experience to watch. A cricket’s noise where Shri and Mithra meet, real-time noise of the bus station makes us enjoy the sound.

Long-lasting love is found or broken by the perfect or imperfect communication between two individuals. But, a long-time uncommunicativeness of a female protagonist Mithra (because of her past, however, it may be) with her husband Shri is a little dramatic to the story and feels unconvincing. Rejecting deep thinking to this light heart overnight-romantic-drama, Ivalum Iyalum is anything for love & only for her is a fulfilling film by the performance of the artists.
