As we enter September, Netflix continues to release fresh content regularly to keep us entertained during the rainy weekends. We’ve compiled a list of top shows and movies for you to binge-watch. First on the list is the live-action adaptation of the popular anime “One Piece,” which is surprisingly receiving positive feedback from both fans and critics. So, if you had doubts due to previous Netflix anime adaptations, now is a good time to give it a try.

Other notable titles currently leading Netflix’s Top 10 list this week include “Friday Night Plan,” starring Babil Khan, a story about brotherhood, and the highly-praised coming-of-age comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”

With that said, here’s a rundown of what you should consider watching on Netflix this weekend:

One Piece

In his quest to become the legendary Pirate King, Luffy, portrayed by Iñaki Godoy, embarks on a mission across the treacherous Grand Line. However, before he can set sail, he must secure both a ship and a loyal crew of unconventional comrades whom he can trust without question. Among his crew members are the three-sword-wielding green-haired warrior Zoro, played by Mackenyu, the mysterious red-haired thief Nami, portrayed by Emily Rudd, the crafty storyteller Usopp, embodied by Jacob Romero Gibson, and the passionate chef Sanji, played by Taz Skylar. These individuals are drawn together by Luffy’s infectious childlike enthusiasm, forming the formidable “Strawhat Pirates” crew.

The initial 10-episode season of the series focuses on the East Blue Saga, introducing the menacing and body-splitting antagonist known as Buggy the Clown, who becomes a formidable obstacle in the path of our heroes.

Bro

In an adaptation of the 2021 Tamil film “Vinodhaya Sitham,” the movie “Bro” tells the story of Mark (played by Sai Dharam Tej), a self-centered and arrogant IT professional who prioritizes his career over his family. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he meets with a fatal accident and passes away. To his surprise, he awakens in a mysterious and supernatural realm where he encounters Titan (portrayed by Pawan Kalyan), the God of Time. Titan informs Mark about his death and the consequences of his selfish choices.

Filled with remorse for how he lived his life, Mark desperately pleads with Titan to allow him to return to the world of the living. He is granted a unique opportunity – a three-month extension to make amends and improve his family’s situation. However, there’s a catch: Time itself will accompany Mark on this journey, resulting in a series of comical and unusual encounters between the two characters.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah

Stacy Friedman, portrayed by Sunny Sandler, is an unassuming student at her school who desires to transform her social status by hosting an incredible bat mitzvah party. However, her father, played by Adam Sandler, is hesitant about inviting Dua Lipa to the event. In her moment of uncertainty, Stacy turns to her quirky lifelong friend Lydia, portrayed by Samantha Lorraine, with whom she has always shared ambitious plans for their future. Things take a dramatic turn when a popular boy named Andy, played by Dylan Hoffman, comes between them, leaving Stacy heartbroken as she witnesses Lydia getting romantically involved with her crush.

Consumed by distress and feeling betrayed, Stacy embarks on a revenge mission, spreading rumors and engaging in arguments, until she realizes the true value of the friendship she has lost due to a fleeting attraction. “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah” reunites Adam Sandler with his co-star from “Uncut Gems,” Idina Menzel, and also features Luis Guzmán from “Boogie Nights.”

Friday Night Plan

Growing up with siblings presents numerous challenges, such as understanding the value of unconditional love and becoming more humble, all of which contribute to strengthening the familial bond. In Netflix’s “Friday Night Plan,” we follow a pair of similarly quarrelsome siblings – the introverted Siddharth (played by Babil Khan) and his mischievous younger brother (portrayed by Amrith Jayan). They receive an invitation to the most significant party of their lives, and the opportunity arises when their mother (played by Juhi Chawla) has to go on a business trip over the same weekend, leaving them to their own devices.

They decide to attend the party, indulge in alcohol, and participate in some wild games, like throwing eggs at strangers, which ultimately leads to a run-in with the police. Through this challenging encounter, they discover the importance of supporting each other and embracing their individual strengths and weaknesses as they navigate their way out of this tricky situation.

The Monkey King

A monkey named Jimmy O. Yang, armed with a magical stick and an overinflated sense of self-importance, sets out on a mission to vanquish 100 demons in a village. His goal is to establish himself as a revered figure among the Immortal Ones, the deities worshipped by the people. However, his excessive pride, while occasionally helping him embarrass his adversaries, also leads to destructive consequences during his journey. Along the dangerous quest, a modest peasant named Lin, played by Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, joins Jimmy’s party to provide assistance and to challenge him to become a better version of himself. Together, they prepare to confront the formidable Dragon King and cleanse the land of evil, all while Jimmy learns the importance of humility and self-improvement.

Who is Erin Carter

Erin Carter (played by Evin Ahmad) may seem like an ordinary substitute teacher who has recently moved to Spain with her family. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when she becomes embroiled in a supermarket robbery. In a surprising twist, she unleashes her hidden skills and takes on the criminals with the deadly precision of an assassin, resembling a character like John Wick.

This unexpected act of heroism draws various kinds of attention. The police are keen to uncover her mysterious background, while old adversaries from her past resurface, determined to track her down. This sets off a relentless pursuit that threatens to unravel Erin’s seemingly normal life.

The film, fittingly titled “Who is Erin Carter,” is directed by Jack Lothian, known for his work on the TV series Shameless.
