Elemental is set to arrive on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on September 13th, following its delayed theatrical release in India on June 23rd. In the United States and other regions, it premiered on June 16th, making it an 89-day gap between its theater and streaming release, just one day short of Disney’s usual 90-day window. This approach was traditionally used to encourage more people to see the film in theaters and boost video-on-demand (VoD) sales. Interestingly, some theaters in India are still showing Elemental.

When it comes to language options in India, Elemental will be available in only two languages: English and Hindi. This follows Disney’s trend of limited localization for non-Marvel Cinematic Universe or major franchise films like Avatar: The Way of Water. In the past, animated films had a 30-day window before they hit streaming platforms. However, this window has now extended significantly across Disney’s entire film catalog, regardless of their box office performance.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, with praise for its visuals but criticism for its storytelling, Elemental has managed to gross $480.2 million globally, making it the ninth highest-grossing film of the year.

Elemental City’s fictional subway is a whimsical place where humanoid representations of the elements (fire, water, land, and earth) coexist harmoniously. The story primarily revolves around the budding relationship between Ember, a fiery young woman, and Wade, a laid-back guy symbolizing the liquid element. Their contrasting natures highlight the perceived incompatibility among the elements, drawing parallels to real-world racial allegories, portrayed through quirky anthropomorphic characters.

Like many Disney animated films, Elemental also explores the timeless theme of discovering one’s purpose. In Ember’s case, her journey involves resisting the expectation of taking over her father’s restaurant. The movie is directed by Peter Sohn, known for his work on “The Good Dinosaur.”

On September 13, alongside the release of Elemental, viewers can also enjoy a behind-the-scenes documentary called “Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental.” Additionally, there’s an animated short film based on the 2009 movie “Up” titled “Carl’s Date,” featuring the elderly character Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner) navigating the world of modern dating at the behest of his dog Dug. This short film holds special significance as one of Ed Asner’s final performances before his passing in 2021, and it was screened in theaters alongside Elemental.

Elemental will be available for streaming on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar starting September 13. In India, the film will be accessible in both English and Hindi.
