Best Robbery Movies on Netflix – Part 2

The Usual Suspects

Modern films often draw inspiration from the noir films of the 1930s and 1940s, a motif evident in “The Usual Suspects.” This neo-noir film pays homage to classic noir, such as “Casablanca,” in both its plot structure and title. Roger, a conman and survivor of a ship fire, recounts his involvement with a wrongfully accused crew turned bank robbers, leading to a series of heists in NYC. Their actions ultimately lead them to a showdown in Los Angeles with associates of the notorious crime lord Söze. Watch now.

Da 5 Bloods

Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods,” also the late Chadwick Boseman’s final film, offers a unique take on the heist genre. Vietnam War veterans return to their old station to recover hidden treasure. Flashbacks are woven into the narrative, but the film primarily focuses on their current journey. The group, known as The Bloods, partners with a financier to retrieve the treasure. Despite losing members along the way, the surviving Bloods divide the loot as if all had survived. Watch now.

Public Enemies

While true crime fascination has surged in recent times, Hollywood has a longstanding history with the genre. “Public Enemies” focuses on the last series of bank robberies led by John Dillinger during the Great Depression. The action-packed heist movie portrays Dillinger’s criminal exploits, including a Sioux Falls heist that leads to the arrest of his beloved Frechette, even though she wasn’t directly implicated.

Army of Thieves

Zack Snyder’s writers’ room brings us another sequel in “Army of Thieves.” Matthias Schweighöfer returns as Ludwig/Sebastian, an unassuming bank teller with a YouTube channel on safe cracking. After winning a safecracking contest, he’s enlisted to crack a Wagner safe. Interpol pursues the crew during the heist, leading Sebastian and team member Gwendoline to flee to California. There, Sebastian is hired to crack the last existing Wagner safe. Watch now.

Wheelman

Jeremy Rush’s neo-noir film “Wheelman” sets a unique record with nearly 300 instances of the F-word, making it the most profuse use of the word in a narrative. The plot revolves around a heist gone wrong, as the driver, known as The Wheelman, discovers the crew intends to eliminate him. The film’s distinct perspective unfolds mainly from within high-performance cars like the BMW 3 Series and Porsche. Watch now.

Bank Robbers: The Last Great Heist

In the Netflix documentary “Bank Robbers: The Last Great Heist,” bank robbers share their story. A crew of four individuals successfully executed a bank robbery and hostage situation, outsmarting local authorities at Banco Rio in Buenos Aires. The documentary uses actors and miniature sets rather than flashback re-enactments, adding a touch of amusement. The heist’s comical motive arises from artist Fernando Araujo’s desire to fulfill his aspiration of robbing a bank. Watch now.

Army of the Dead

The initial entry in Zack Snyder’s heist-themed narratives is “Army of the Dead,” featuring a cast including Dave Bautista and comedian Tig Notaro. The world is on the brink of a zombie apocalypse, prompting a former casino owner to assemble a team for a $200 million vault recovery mission in quarantined Las Vegas. While lacking high-speed chases, the film features several epic battles, including one with a zombie tiger. Watch now.
