Best Robbery Movies on Netflix – Part 1

Inception

Christopher Nolan’s intricate film “Inception” presents a complex heist story. Cobb and his partner Arthur are extraction experts who infiltrate dreams to disrupt corporations. Their latest task involves implanting an idea in an heir’s mind to forge their own path, rather than inheriting their father’s legacy. To achieve this, Cobb and Arthur assemble a team for a meticulously synchronized five-layered dream plan, with each member waking up before a flight’s descent. Yet, Cobb’s personal motive lies in reuniting with his children and redeeming himself. Watch now.

Baby Driver

Edgar Wright, known for his comedic and comic book adaptations, delivers a unique heist film in “Baby Driver.” The story follows Baby, a getaway driver, who yearns for a normal life but gets pulled back into a post office robbery. The film features intense action sequences with muscle cars and high-speed chases. The ending, according to The Cinemaholic, suggests Baby’s release and reunion with Debora might be a dream, leaving some audience members puzzled.

The Italian Job

A remake of the 1969 British heist classic, “The Italian Job” follows a team aiming to steal $35 million in gold. In this version, the gold was previously stolen by another crew. Led by safecracker John and fixer Charlie, their plan involves a romantic cover-up for the explosive safecracking. What sets it apart is the high-speed chase through Venice, featuring Mini Coopers known for their drifting capabilities, offering a unique twist on traditional heist movie car chases. Watch now.

Inside Man

Spike Lee, known for his social commentary, takes a unique approach in “Inside Man,” shifting the focus from the robbers to those in power. A detective becomes the negotiator, and the bank robber’s revelation about the founder’s Nazi collaboration and genocide profiting drives much of the action and police tactics in the movie. Now You See Me

“Now You See Me,” featuring Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman, stands out as a heist film centered around magicians and their cat-and-mouse game with Interpol. The story revolves around The Four Horsemen, a group of magicians accused of robbing global banks and baffling U.S. audiences by showering them with stolen money. Employing tactics like cloned cell phones, decoys, and balloon animals, they outwit both Interpol and the FBI. Watch now.

Heat

“Heat,” the 1995 heist movie directed by Michael Mann, is the third version of his tale involving Neil McCauley, a thief pursued by former Chicago detective Chuck Adamson, who later became a Hollywood producer. Originally conceived as a TV drama and then a TV movie, “Heat” stars iconic mafia film actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in opposing roles. De Niro plays Neil, a seasoned criminal leading a team in a $1.6 million armored car heist. Pacino portrays an LAPD Lieutenant who becomes involved when one of the team members commits murder. The film culminates in a dramatic pursuit on the LAX tarmac as the Lieutenant chases Neil on foot as he tries to escape with the stolen money.

Reservoir Dogs

Quentin Tarantino, known for his gritty and profanity-laden action films, continues this style in “Reservoir Dogs,” a heist movie set in Los Angeles. Led by Joe Cabot and his son, Mr. Cabot, the team’s goal is to steal diamonds. Each member, identified by color-coded nicknames starting with “Mr.,” brings a complex history that contributes to the success of the heist. The film culminates in a tense standoff, resulting in the team’s demise either by their own hands or the police.

Logan Lucky

In “Logan Lucky,” after Jimmy loses his job as a construction worker, his brother Clyde hires him as a bartender. At the bar, they learn of a vault beneath a NASCAR speedway, prompting the siblings to form a team for a heist. The film’s unique twist involves both breaking out of jail and breaking into jail to free someone. Jimmy uses his construction skills to access the vault via a sinkhole. “Logan Lucky” humorously plays with Southern stereotypes, with characters speaking slowly at times, creating comedic moments noted by Vulture.
