As we enter the first week of October, we understand the frustration of spending hours scrolling through various streaming platforms to find the perfect content. So, we’ve compiled an updated list of movies and TV shows that will keep you entertained this weekend. Leading the pack of new releases is the second season of “Loki,” where we continue to follow the God of Mischief’s time-traveling escapades and his encounters with alternate versions of beloved characters. In a similar multiverse theme, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is now available for streaming on Netflix. It features a young Miles Morales tackling a significant conspiracy involving numerous Spider-People.

This weekend is shaping up to be quite busy, with Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2” making its debut on Sunday, October 8, on Netflix, less than two months after its theatrical release. Additionally, “Gadar 2,” starring Sunny Deol, a box office competitor, is now available on Zee5. With that in mind, here’s a guide to help you decide what to watch this weekend.

OTT Releases This Week: Loki Season 2, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, OMG 2, and More

Khufiya

In the espionage thriller “Khufiya,” a resilient R&AW operative named Krishna Mehra, portrayed by Tabu, is assigned the critical mission of uncovering a traitor within their organization. This mole’s actions have resulted in the tragic death of an undercover spy. Ali Fazal plays the primary suspect, frequently observed photocopying confidential documents from his workplace and bringing them home, raising suspicions that he might be sharing India’s defense secrets with hostile nations. Agent KM and her team are relentless in their pursuit, maintaining round-the-clock surveillance and discreetly bugging his residence. This high-stakes operation takes them across international borders, all the while ensuring the safety of his innocent wife, portrayed by Wamiqa Gabbi, and their child. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, “Khufiya” also features Ashish Vidyarthi in a pivotal role as Kuttey.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

A young Miles Morales, played by Shameik Moore, is thrown into a multitude of parallel universes and becomes trapped among a formidable group of Spider-People, all in a desperate attempt to save the very fabric of reality. Alongside Gwen Stacy (portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld) and the rebellious Spider-Punk (played by Daniel Kaluuya), he encounters the enigmatic leader Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). Miguel is a deeply scarred and intensely determined figure who leads the Spider society with an almost vampiric fervor, firmly believing that the ends justify any means, no matter how extreme.

However, when Miles is presented with a choice to prioritize the safety of countless universes over the life of one individual, he refuses, setting off a chaotic pursuit where he must fend off and elude various versions of Spider-Men.

Loki season 2

In an alternate timeline where Loki is unrecognized by any TVA members, he must navigate through various timelines with a new Mobius M. Mobius. His main objective is to reunite with his original team, but he faces a challenge as his body continually distorts and sends him into different past and future timelines randomly. The situation becomes chaotic, and even the TVA archivist, OB, cannot provide a solution to Loki’s unpredictable time-traveling. However, OB does have specialized equipment designed for multiversal travel to assist our heroes. In the second season of Loki, Sylvie now works at McDonald’s, Hunter B-15 has become a doctor, and Kang the Conqueror appears to have taken up a surprising role as a stage magician.

OMG 2

In the wake of a scandal involving his son, Kanti Sharan Mudgal, portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi, a concerned citizen and a devout follower of Lord Shiva, embarks on a quest to make sex education a mandatory part of the school curriculum. This effort leads to a whimsical courtroom drama that unfolds in an engaging manner. However, Kanti’s path to this courtroom drama is fraught with personal tragedy, including facing judgmental comments from his neighbors and dealing with his son’s attempted suicide. Remarkably, these challenges are subtly averted by a mysterious messenger, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, who seems to be a divine emissary sent by the three-eyed deity himself. Directed by Amit Rai, known for his work on “Road to Sangam,” “OMG 2” also features Yami Gautam in the role of an opposing lawyer.

Choona

In this heist comedy series, Jimmy Sheirgill plays a corrupt politician deeply immersed in astrology and determined to seize power. His unusual twist is that he meticulously plans his daily activities based on the alignment of stars and planets, believing it brings him success. During his rapid ascent to the top, he makes numerous enemies, all of whom are eager to exact revenge by devising a scheme to steal a whopping 600 crore rupees right from under the politician’s nose. The challenge lies in the location – a heavily fortified party office swarming with ten armed police officers, over a hundred henchmen, and surveillance cameras covering every corner. The team, known as Choona, consists of a rebellious member (Aashim Gulati), a shape-shifting informant (Namit Das), a mute individual (Chandan Roy), an astrologer (Atul Srivastava), and a demoted police officer (Gyanendra Tripathi).

Gadar 2

In Gadar 2, when Tara Singh (portrayed by Sunny Deol) goes missing in a skirmish in Pakistan, believed to be captured, his now-grown son Jeete embarks on a perilous mission to rescue him. This journey takes them through uncharted territories, and both father and son must find a way to escape. Ameesha Patel reprises her role as Tara’s wife, Sakeena Ali Singh, who is distraught upon hearing about her husband’s disappearance and constantly prays for their safety. Notably, the actor who played Charanjeet as a child in the original 2001 film now portrays the adult version of the character in Gadar 2.

Mumbai Diaries season 2

In the second season of Mumbai Diaries, Dr. Kaushik Oberoi, played by Mohit Raina, and his medical team face a fresh set of challenges as Mumbai is threatened by a series of heavy rainfalls that could lead to flooding. This medical thriller continues to highlight the unwavering determination of crisis doctors, who work tirelessly despite limited resources, sleep deprivation, and personal struggles, some of which stem from the trauma of dealing with the 26/11 attacks. Much of the original cast, including Konkana Sen Sharma, Tina Desai, and Natasha Bharadwaj, returns for this season.
