Every Horror Movie Releasing in December 2023

It’s a Wonderful Knife

It’s a Wonderful Knife diverges from the typical festive film formula, opting for a Christmas comedy-slasher approach rather than a heartwarming tale. Featuring Jane Widdop, Joel McHale, and Justin Long, this movie puts a dark twist on the beloved classic, It’s a Wonderful Life. The narrative revolves around Winnie Carruthers (played by Jane Widdop), who heroically thwarts a Christmas Eve serial killer in her town, Angels Falls. However, her life takes a grim turn a year later.

In an unexpected turn of events, Winnie inadvertently wishes she was never born, leading to a nightmarish reality where the killer remains unidentified in an alternate universe. Now faced with the challenge of preventing another murderous rampage, she must act swiftly to avert the impending tragedy and save her town from a grim fate.

Lord of Misrule

This year has brought a remarkable array of horror stories, encompassing diverse themes within the genre. However, a distinctive addition seems to be missing – a tale rooted in ancient folklore, relying heavily on atmosphere to evoke spine-chilling narratives. For aficionados of folklore-based horror, the upcoming indie film “Lord of Misrule” might be the perfect way to conclude the year.

Directed by William Brent, known for his work on “Orphan: First Kill,” “The Boy,” and “The Devil Inside,” the film follows Rebecca, a newly appointed priest in a tranquil rural town. Content in her life of prayer and caring for her daughter, Grace, Rebecca’s world is upended when an unforeseen event disrupts the tranquility she once knew.

After a charming winter festival, Grace vanishes under mysterious circumstances, prompting Rebecca to desperately unravel the clues that could help locate her innocent daughter. However, as her investigation deepens each day, she stumbles upon unsettling revelations about the village and the covert cult that holds sway over it. The question arises: What is Rebecca prepared to give up in order to rescue her daughter from the clutches of these fanatical cultists? “Lord of Misrule” is set to launch digitally and on VOD on December 8, 2023.

Godzilla Minus One

Despite the common misconception that Godzilla is a product of Hollywood, it’s important to recognize its deep roots in Japanese culture, symbolizing the legendary creature known as Kaiju.

While the MonsterVerse has thrived with successful films like Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong, with an upcoming release titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in April 2024, Toho, the original creators of the franchise, has introduced another captivating addition called Godzilla Minus One.

Godzilla Minus One marks the 37th installment in the Godzilla film series and features Takashi Yamazaki’s third portrayal of Godzilla on-screen. Drawing inspiration from the 1954 Godzilla and Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, the movie deviates from the typical horror genre, yet the trailer hints at its ability to evoke terror through a fresh perspective on the iconic Kaiju creature.

Set in 1945, immediately after the conclusion of World War II, Japan is grappling with the aftermath, mourning the loss of millions and striving to rebuild. However, the war’s impact extends beyond human casualties, as a legendary Kaiju, once believed to be a mere myth, emerges from the ocean depths, unleashing destruction.

Devoid of effective weapons and defense mechanisms, the survivors find themselves helpless against this formidable creature. The film explores whether they can safeguard their country and lives from its relentless rampage or succumb to despair in the face of its overwhelming presence. Scheduled for release on December 1, 2023, Godzilla Minus One promises a unique take on the historic monster in theaters.
