15 Best Superhero TV Shows on Disney Plus to Watch Right Now

Marvel’s Agent Carter 2 Seasons

In the year 1946, this series delves into the post-Captain America: The First Avenger life of Agent Peggy Carter. Despite being an exceptional agent for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, she finds herself relegated to a mere secretary role as the returning male soldiers take precedence in the post-World War II era, reflecting the prevailing male-dominated attitudes of the time.

However, a significant shift occurs when Howard Stark, facing accusations of treason, seeks Peggy’s assistance in clearing his name. Peggy, armed with her remarkable intelligence and espionage skills, undertakes this perilous mission and unveils dark secrets along the way. The show combines elements of action, empowerment of female characters, and offers a fresh perspective within the familiar Marvel Universe. Marvel’s Agent Carter adds a compelling layer for fans yearning for the essence of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Iron Fist 2 Seasons

“Iron Fist” is a TV series that draws its inspiration from the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The show revolves around Danny Rand, a man thought to be dead, who reemerges in New York to take back his family’s business. However, there’s a surprising twist to his story.

During his mysterious absence, he undergoes intense training in the mystical city of K’un-Lun to become the next bearer of the Iron Fist, a remarkable ability that enables him to harness his inner energy (chi) for extraordinary martial arts prowess. Now, Danny must reclaim his family’s heritage and battle to safeguard his city from threats, criminal activity, and formidable adversaries from his past.

The Gifted 2 Seasons

“The Gifted” depicts the Strucker family’s journey as they grapple with the challenges of living as mutants. Siblings Andy and Lauren possess innate mutant abilities, and their parents are compelled to keep them hidden from a government organization intent on tracking and subduing mutants. To counter this agency, the Struckers join forces with other mutants to secure their children’s freedom and work towards a new world order. The series offers a diverse range of compelling insights, obstacles, and adrenaline-pumping sequences.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 7 Seasons

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as the title implies, is centered around Marvel’s beloved covert law enforcement group. Following the events of The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson decides to rejoin the organization in a new capacity. He assembles a small, elite team capable of handling cases that are unconventional, unclassified, and unpredictable.

This unit is tasked with navigating a world filled with aliens, superheroes, and extraordinary phenomena to safeguard the planet from various threats. The series delves into themes of action, morality, loyalty, self-sacrifice, unexpected plot twists, and drama. It presents a compelling narrative that can easily captivate fans and keep them glued to their screens.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier 1 Season

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier delighted fans by reuniting Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes for a six-episode series. The story unfolds in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers (portrayed by Chris Evans) passed on the Captain America legacy to Sam, previously known as The Falcon. However, Sam initially felt unworthy of the mantle and declined it. In response, the US Government appointed John Walker (played by Wyatt Russell) as the new Captain America. Sam and Bucky reluctantly join forces to combat a new threat and navigate their evolving roles in society.

The series addresses a significant question that arose after the retirement of several original Avengers following the events of Avengers: Endgame. With Steve’s departure into the past to seek happiness, there was uncertainty about how Sam and Bucky would fit into the broader Avengers narrative without their connection through Steve. The show effectively leverages the chemistry between Mackie and Stan to create a buddy-cop dynamic, with Sam and Bucky frequently clashing as they work together. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier also tackle important and timely societal issues, demonstrating that Sam Wilson is indeed deserving of the Captain America mantle.

I Am Groot 2 Seasons

Baby Groot captured the hearts of many in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. However, when he rapidly grew into a teenager in Avengers: Infinity War, it seemed unlikely we’d see more of his adorable antics. Disney+ provided a unique opportunity for Marvel, and they delivered a delightful five-episode animated series called “I Am Groot.”

These six-minute episodes showcase Groot’s adventures, from his first steps outside the pot we first saw him in at the end of the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie, to his encounters with a tiny civilization that considers him their hero, and even his comical attempts to enjoy a relaxing bath. This beloved series gained enough popularity to warrant a second season on the streaming service.

Daredevil 3 Seasons

Matt Murdock, Marvel Comics’ inaugural blind superhero, serves as a lawyer by day but transforms into the crime-fighting vigilante known as Daredevil to combat wrongdoing in the streets of New York. Possessing exceptional hearing and combat skills, he stands as a formidable guardian for the people he protects.

In collaboration with his reliable companions, Daredevil faces the pervasive criminal elements lurking in the city’s shadowy corners, all the while ensuring that justice is served for the victims. “Daredevil” is a series that provides an exceptional fusion of drama, action, and the narrative of a superhero.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law 1 Season

After a car accident exposes Jennifer Walters to her superhero cousin Bruce Wayne’s (aka The Hulk, portrayed by Mark Ruffalo) blood, she becomes the She-Hulk. However, unlike her cousin, Jennifer retains her intelligence when she transforms into a 6-foot-7-inch green beauty. She’s determined to keep her life unchanged and resumes her job as a lawyer in the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office. Unfortunately, her plans are thwarted when her secret is exposed, leading to her losing her dream job. The only available position is as a special legal representative at a high-end law firm that handles superpowered clients, including her cousin’s old nemesis Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), also known as The Abomination.

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” introduced a rare comedic element to the MCU. The absurd situations Jennifer gets herself into, along with her habit of breaking the fourth wall to directly address the audience, made the show a refreshing departure. Particularly memorable is when Jennifer breaks out of her narrative and infiltrates Marvel Studios to confront Kevin Feige (K.E.V.I.N.) himself, seeking answers about the bizarre direction her series seems to be taking. It’s an exciting prospect to think about a potential fourth-wall-breaking showdown between Jennifer and another character known for this, Deadpool, when he eventually joins the MCU.

Hawkeye 1 Season

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, is attempting to move on from his past and savor the time he now has with his family following their return from The Blip. However, when Kate Bishop, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld, borrows his old Ronan outfit and causes trouble with some of his adversaries, he senses the need to rectify his mistakes and protect her from harm. In the Hawkeye series, the two join forces to swiftly clear Kate’s name, allowing Clint to make it home in time for Christmas.

Hawkeye is often overlooked among the original Avengers due to his lack of traditional superpowers, relying on his exceptional archery skills. The show delves into the gritty aspects of his character, revealing the injuries he sustains in fights and humanizing him by depicting him using bags of frozen vegetables for self-medication. It not only offers a compelling exploration of this underappreciated Avenger but also serves as an excellent introduction to the character of Kate Bishop, leaving fans eager to see more of her in the future.

What If…? 1 Season

In the summer of 2021, Marvel’s “What If…?” marked a notable departure from the studio’s traditional approach. Spanning 9 episodes, the series, led by the enigmatic narrator known as The Watcher, portrayed various alternate realities within the multiverse. These parallel universes posed intriguing questions, such as “What if T’Challa took on the role of Star-Lord?” and provided viewers with captivating stories set in these alternate realms. The overarching theme of the show revolved around The Watcher’s unwavering commitment not to interfere in these diverse universes, even as an escalating threat menaced the multiverse.

Unlike Marvel’s previous animated endeavors, which primarily targeted younger audiences on platforms like Disney Channel and Disney XD and remained separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), “What If…?” took a different approach. The show’s creators drew inspiration from the comics but also incorporated numerous nods to the MCU. Moreover, they secured the participation of well-known actors who returned to lend their voices to their iconic characters, including Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, and Samuel L. Jackson, among others. As a result, “What If…?” swiftly gained popularity and received a green light for a second season scheduled to premiere in mid-2024, promising even more multiverse-based adventures.

Moon Knight 1 Season

Steven Grant is an unassuming museum employee in London, UK, trying to navigate his daily routine and perhaps go on a date. He’s baffled by inexplicable episodes of waking up in unfamiliar places, losing chunks of time. However, his life takes a bewildering turn when he’s thrust into a conflict he can’t comprehend and realizes that he’s not the sole inhabitant of his own body. In truth, he was born as Marc Spector, a disgraced army veteran who was shot and left for dead in Egypt. There, he struck a pact with Khonsu, the moon god, who resurrects Marc in exchange for him serving as Khonsu’s earthly avatar. As the Moon Knight, Marc is tasked with fighting Khonsu’s battles while striving to prevent a former avatar from wreaking havoc on the world.

Moon Knight expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s mythos by delving into Egyptian mythology and its pantheon of gods. It also delved deep into the life of someone coping with dissociative identity disorder, where multiple distinct personalities coexist within one body. Oscar Isaac delivered a standout performance in the MCU, portraying various characters, sometimes within the same scene. While there’s no official word yet on a second season of Moon Knight, the season’s conclusion strongly suggests that there are more stories to unfold, with the introduction of a third personality, Jake Lockley.

Baymax! 1 Season

One of the most underappreciated animated superhero films in the past decade is “Big Hero 6,” which is an animated adaptation of the comic book of the same name. The story revolves around a group of teenage superheroes in an alternative version of San Francisco called San Fransokyo.

Instead of conventional sequels, Disney has expanded the franchise through television series. The initial one, “Big Hero 6,” was created for the Disney Channel and is currently available on Disney+. The new series, “Baymax!” consists of six episodes, each with short segments lasting 11-12 minutes. These episodes primarily revolve around the endearing healthcare companion robot, Baymax, as he embarks on various adventures to aid the residents of San Fransokyo. His assistance often comes in ways that the residents themselves may not even realize.

Loki 2 Seasons

In Avengers: Endgame, a new timeline emerges when the Avengers fail to retrieve an infinity stone from the past, leading to Loki getting hold of the Tesseract and being apprehended by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) just before being erased. He’s spared to assist in tracking down another version of himself to prevent a timeline collapse. Despite apparent deaths, fans remained hopeful, so Marvel used his popularity to create a series, hinting at the multiverse’s arrival. The show’s second season is scheduled for October 6, 2023, indicating Loki’s ongoing presence in the spotlight.

Ms. Marvel 1 Season

Kamala Khan, portrayed by Iman Velani, is depicted as an ordinary Muslim Pakistani teenager growing up in New Jersey. She’s a devoted fan of the Avengers and is determined to attend a local convention called Avengercon to showcase her homemade cosplay of her favorite Avenger, Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson), often referred to as “The Cosmic Avenger.” However, her decision to incorporate a bangle sent to her by her grandmother in Pakistan into her costume unlocks latent abilities that allow her to manipulate light. As a result, she finds herself becoming a superhero, and Kamala must confront her family’s past and cultural heritage to combat an adversary willing to jeopardize the world to return to their exiled homeland.

Ms. Marvel’s introduction as a Disney+ offering is widely regarded as the best among the superhero shows. It manages to captivate the audience right from the beginning. While it delves into a darker aspect of history, shedding light on details that many may not have been aware of, the series remains a delight to watch. It introduces a new superhero who contributes depth to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, broadening the roster of heroes to include more diverse characters. Although a second season of Ms. Marvel has not been officially confirmed yet, fans can anticipate Kamala Khan’s appearance in “The Marvels” alongside her hero, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau this coming November.

WandaVision 1 Season

WandaVision, the first MCU show to debut on Disney+, had built up immense anticipation. When we last saw Wanda Maximoff and Vision, he had been killed by Thanos while she was dusted in the Blip and later returned to confront Thanos again. In the series, they are mysteriously living a seemingly perfect life in different classic sitcom scenarios, but it becomes evident that something is amiss in the town of Westview.

While the initial two episodes may have felt peculiar, viewers were quickly captivated by the escalating oddities and the unraveling mystery in Westview. The show garnered numerous award nominations, including multiple Emmy nods. Although there’s likely no second season, Wanda’s storyline continued in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she assumes a villainous role. Additionally, there are upcoming spinoff series, such as “Agatha Harkness: Coven of Chaos” in 2024 and a Vision-focused Disney+ series titled “Vision Quest.” WandaVision set a high standard that subsequent superhero shows on Disney+ are still striving to match.
