Chris Rock, the comic who received a notoriety-making slap from Will Smith at the 2022 Academy Awards, said at his Sunday night show in Phoenix that he had been approached to host the programme the following year but had turned down the offer.
Chris also profanely claimed that he had turned down the opportunity to appear in a Super Bowl commercial during his performance at the Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix.

In reference to the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, whose ex-slaying wife’s started with her leaving a pair of eyeglasses at an Italian restaurant, Rock linked going to the Oscars to returning to the scene of a crime. According to Rock, asking Nicole Brown Simpson to return to the award ceremony would be like telling her to “go back to the dinner.”
Will Smith apologised to Chris and the Academy on his social media account, though, after facing criticism for his disruptive behaviour. “Chris, I want to publicly apologise to you. I made a mistake and stepped out of line. I feel ashamed because they did not reflect the kind of man I aspire to be. Smith stated on Instagram that there is “no place for violence in a society of love and peace.”
“Violence is poisonous and harmful in all of its manifestations. My conduct at last night’s Oscars was deplorable and disgusting. It’s part of the business to make jokes about me, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me to take, and I lost it emotionally,” Smith added in his apologies.
I also want to express my regret to the Academy, the show’s producers, all the attendees, and everyone who watched online. I want to apologise to both my King Richard family and the Williams family. I sincerely regret that my actions tainted our group’s otherwise beautiful journey. I’m still a work in progress, he said.
