Derived from the popular video game, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” centers around a troubled security guard named Mike (portrayed by Josh Hutcherson), haunted by the childhood abduction of his younger brother, Garrett. To care for his sister Abby (played by Piper Rubio), Mike reluctantly accepts a night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a defunct family entertainment establishment reminiscent of Chuck E. Cheese’s. Thriving in the 1980s until a series of child disappearances led to its permanent closure, the mysterious building still stands for unexplained reasons.

During his job, Mike crosses paths with Vanessa (played by Elizabeth Lail), a local police officer who seems to possess more knowledge about Freddy’s and its dark history than she reveals. Frequently appearing at opportune moments, he gradually discerns that her connection to the deteriorating establishment goes beyond mere nostalgia. Despite her ambiguous attempts to caution Mike about the dangers within the building, it doesn’t take long for him to realize the connection between his brother’s abduction, the local children’s vanishing, and Vanessa’s consistent presence in the peculiar situation at Freddy’s.

Possessed Animatronics

When Mike’s babysitter fails to show up one night due to Freddy and the other malevolent animatronics, he has no other option but to take Abby with him to work. Upon waking up in the office the next day, he discovers Abby playing with the possessed animatronics in another room. They soon realize that the animatronics are inhabited by the spirits of children, and despite their menacing behavior toward others, they enjoy interacting with Abby.

Upon returning home, Mike notices that some of Abby’s drawings feature the same children who appear in his recurring dream about his brother’s abduction. What intrigues him the most is a drawing of Garrett, created after one of the ghostly children shared information with Abby. It becomes evident that the children who went missing in the 80s now inhabit the animatronics and may hold clues about what happened to Mike’s brother.

As a result, Mike decides to bring Abby back to Freddy’s the following night. Vanessa greets them upon arrival and confesses that she has been aware of the possessed animatronics all along. What initially seems like an enjoyable night takes a turn for the worse when Mike shares his belief that Abby can communicate with the ghost children to uncover the truth about his brother’s disappearance. Vanessa reacts strongly, vehemently opposing the idea and even threatening to harm Mike if he ever brings Abby back to Freddy’s without any explanation.

Vanessa’s Connection

Disregarding Vanessa, Mike seeks assistance from his aunt to care for Abby during the day. This would allow him to return to Freddy’s, make himself sleep, and reconnect with the children to uncover their knowledge. However, the children manage to persuade Mike into agreeing to hand over Abby by promising they can help rescue Garrett and change the past. He initially consents but swiftly realizes his error, rejecting the children’s proposal, but it’s too late. They attack him and nearly take his life, but he narrowly escapes, thanks to Vanessa’s intervention.

After tending to Mike’s injuries and revealing her connection to Freddy’s, Vanessa informs him that the children who disappeared in the 1980s were not only killed but also concealed inside the animatronics. The man responsible for these heinous acts is manipulating the children into committing murders, all while erasing their memories of what he did to them. This man, named William Afton, used to work at Freddy’s during its prime, portraying a yellow rabbit character. Vanessa then shows Mike a childhood photo of herself with the yellow rabbit, disclosing that William is her father. In the photo, Vanessa is holding the same toy plane that Mike’s brother had on the day he was abducted. William Afton is indeed the same person who kidnapped Mike’s brother and the other children from Freddy’s.

The Biggest Revelation

While Mike is absent, one of the ghostly children enters his home, commits a heinous act against his aunt, and lures Abby to Freddy’s establishment with the intent of transforming her into one of them. They guide Abby to a room where they plan to harm her and place her inside an animatronic. Fortunately, Mike arrives at Freddy’s and temporarily incapacitates the robots with an electrical shock, enabling Abby to escape. However, as they attempt to exit the building, they become separated.

Abby encounters Vanessa, while Mike faces off against the yellow rabbit animatronic, which he tries unsuccessfully to shock. The yellow rabbit nearly kills Mike, but Vanessa intervenes and reveals that the person inside the costume is Steve Raglan, who initially recommended the security job to Mike. Shockingly, it turns out that William Afton, Vanessa’s father, is also Steve Raglan. A confrontation ensues between Vanessa and her father, during which he injures her when trying to stop Abby from revealing the truth to the ghost children.

Mike urges Abby to show the children what the yellow rabbit has done to them by drawing a picture. William attempts to thwart Abby, but Vanessa intervenes, leading to her getting stabbed. Abby replaces the current picture of the children and the yellow rabbit with one that reveals the animatronic’s true nature. The children, upon realizing the yellow rabbit’s malevolence, turn against him, resulting in the spring locks in his suit piercing his body. The building’s ceiling begins to collapse as Mike and Abby escape, rescuing Vanessa in the process, while the children drag William away.

The film concludes with Vanessa in a coma at the hospital, Mike and Abby happily together, and the injured yellow rabbit animatronic left alone in a backroom at Freddy’s to meet a grim fate.
