While Homecoming was fun and a fresh take on Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 gave us the perfect Spider-Man story. It’s not just better than Homecoming but is the best Spider-Man film ever made.
It starts with Peter juggling his responsibilities as a student, a nephew, a friend and as Spider-Man. Being Spider-Man takes a toll and he therefore loses his Pizza job, is late to class and can’t find time for the girl he’s been crazy about since forever. He’s broke and is asked for rent time and again!
My 2 favorite scenes in Spider-Man 2 are Peter Parker scenes.
- After he’s stopped being Spider-Man, how he feels when the guy’s being mugged.
- And then, when he’s at his lowest and doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do. He asks the universe for a sign, and he gets chocolate cake.
Spider-Man 2 is, in my opinion, the best film to date. And yes, I am counting with Into the Spider-Verse.
The movie shows Peter dealing with the traumas of his life and what they end up doing to him and we see him try to go back to a normal life, which of course ends up not happening.
But even in its perfection, there’s an imperfection that has always bothered me, even when I was 8 and first saw it in theaters.
Harry Osborn and Otto Octavius make a deal. Otto brings him and Harry gives him the tritium he so desires. Simple.
In order to find out where Spider-Man is, Harry tells Otto to talk to Peter Parker as he takes pictures of the web-slinger for the Daily Bugle. He also tells Otto ‘Don’t hurt Peter’
So all is good for a bit and Peter decides to go to a coffee shop and speak to Mary Jane. As the most awkward kissing scene ever is about to happen, Otto sees his opportunity to not only save us from the awkwardness but to also ask Peter about him.
If Peter was not Spider-Man, he and Mary Jane would both be dead, and Harry would definitely not have given him the tritium, since he killed his two best friends and didn’t even ask Peter about Spider-Man.
What was the point of that? It makes no sense.
