Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White, which features Rachel Zegler in the lead role and was originally scheduled for release in March 2024, has been delayed by a year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, with the new release date set for March 21, 2025. Rachel Zegler, who gained recognition for her role in West Side Story, will also be part of The Hunger Games prequel. This strike has had a significant impact on Disney’s film schedule, including the delay of Pixar’s Elio to 2025.
Rachel Zegler, who rose to fame after her performance as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story in 2021, has been actively involved in other high-profile projects, such as the DC superhero sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Additionally, she will star in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, set to be released in November.
While the SAG-AFTRA strike has affected many actors and their ability to promote their work, the studio responsible for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Lionsgate, has reached an interim agreement, allowing Zegler and her Hunger Games co-stars to attend the red carpet premiere and promote the film.

Pixar’s Elio is Also Delayed an Entire Year
A live-action Snow White film featuring Rachel Zegler as the titular character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen has been postponed until spring 2025. Similarly, the animated sci-fi adventure “Elio,” directed by Adrian Molina, was originally set for a March 1, 2024 release but will now hit theaters on June 13, 2025.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) had a meeting scheduled with SAG-AFTRA on Tuesday, October 31. As of now, there is no information about the outcome of the meeting. An anonymous source from a studio mentioned that there is growing common ground between the parties. Another source close to the guild also expressed optimism, though the exact details are still being worked out.

With the recent resolution of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, there is hope that the SAG-AFTRA dispute is also moving toward a resolution. However, until an official agreement is reached, movies like Snow White and Elio could still face potential significant delays in their theatrical releases.
