National Cinema Day is making a comeback this year with an exciting offer. On Friday, October 13, moviegoers all over the country can enjoy films for just Rs. 99 per ticket. This special pricing is a way to celebrate the success of our 2023 box office hits and encourage more people to visit theaters. The event will take place in over 4,000 participating cinema halls, including well-known chains such as PVR Inox, Cinepolis, Movie Time, City Pride, and others. Although the official websites haven’t been updated yet, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) has hinted at additional discounts on food and beverages in the near future.

The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) expressed in a prepared statement that this special event is a wonderful opportunity to bring people of all ages together to enjoy a day filled with movies. It’s a way to commemorate the remarkable success of multiple films at the box office this year. MAI wants to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all the moviegoers who have contributed to this success and warmly invite those who haven’t yet returned to their local cinemas.

Last year, National Cinema Day made headlines worldwide by offering discounted ticket prices. However, it’s important to note that in India, this offer doesn’t apply to premium formats like IMAX, 4DX, or recliner seats. Additionally, this year’s ticket price has increased from last year’s Rs. 75, which led to 6.5 million people flocking to theaters, with some screenings starting as early as 6 am.

This year’s event has been postponed by a month, possibly to avoid affecting the box office earnings of the movie “Jawan,” which is led by Shah Rukh Khan. A similar delay occurred last year due to concerns from certain stakeholders who wanted to ensure that “Brahmāstra” had a chance to make a decent profit before the cinema event began. It’s currently unclear whether the ticket price includes additional charges like internet fees and GST, which online ticketing platforms like BookMyShow might add on top. There’s also an official website for the event, showcasing images from some of the biggest movies of the year, although they are all focused on the US market. Nevertheless, Indian theaters will prioritize showcasing local films in various regional languages.

PVR Inox, India’s largest movie chain, experienced a significant increase in revenue in July, primarily due to the release of three Hollywood blockbusters: “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” and “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One.” During this time, Hindi-language films continued to face challenges. A similar boost in revenue is anticipated for this month with the release of “Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue,” starring Akshay Kumar, which is set to debut on October 6 and perform well into the second week. On the Hollywood front, it’s likely that “Saw X” and “The Creator” will be competing for the top spot.

As of now, the mentioned theater chains have not updated their websites, so more details about the event will be disclosed closer to October 13.
