If I’m a first-time viewer of cinema and I need cinema to encourage me and should not disappoint, this Theeranisi Tamil Short Film could be one of them. But if I’m already a super writer and watching this film I’ll expect more. I can surely say the technical aspects and works are very good in this Theeranisi Tamil Short Film. The cinematography and the way of lighting are good. In the beginning, the way it started with the Briyani parcel and showed the hunger is very good. Especially the very first frame wide frame and then a close in the biryani parcel. The director Shangramatheran chose night and exterior as the story location and time. Choosing the exterior is an advantage of most of the filmmakers as the elements to show have a wide opportunity. Also, if the situation takes place at night, it will be a crowd-free environment for the team, and they can work without any disturbance.
Congratulations to the producer Eazhavaani for producing a good Theeranisi Tamil Short Film. Choosing a good script and encouraging the team to work on the script is what made the producer and Eazhavaani do that. I hope people will thank him for producing this film as the core content is very important.

Showing the hunger of a mentally ill person who seems like a beggar on the roadsides report made the film carry the sympathy emotion. But the way of showing the hunger and carrying the film wasn’t complimenting that much. The story starts when the girl comes out from her home to search for his daddy. We can assume that she lives with her mom and the parents got divorced or whatever and the director left that option to the audience. So, in the beginning, the director wants to convey that we have to take care of our children and parents should not leave the children or parents should not get separated and leave the children alone. When a child was walking and saw the unsound stranger sitting a few distances from her and eating his food. She will be afraid of him after seeing him. When she crossed that person’s smell and the director portrayed in a way that the smell of that kid triggered that unsound person. In the next frame there comes an old man speaking to someone about a child and it is something related to them and not about the script it seems. Because I cannot connect to the script. It’s midnight, so no one is around. The old man started his scooter and when he looked at her in the rear mirror, he stopped his vehicle and asked the child where she was going. As she says she wants to meet her dad in Avadi and suddenly the unsound person appears there, and the kid fears stick to the old man. So here we can predict the story that this is about abuse and the old man is one who’s going to abuse the girl and this unsound person is the one who is going to save that kid. As we can already predict the story the remaining screenplay is what needs to be considered for the audience. The old man took the child to his home and made her change dress. he asked her to play with him, for that tie her hands back and cover her mouth and head too. He then took her inside the room. Then the handsome person comes with an axe and the screen goes like the person hit the old man and took the child out and rescued her. So, in this story, the Axe and few more materials are important to be noted.
When it comes to cinematography Muthukumar has done a very beautiful job. The frames and screen depend on the lighting or are very good to watch and pleasant. I think this is what the success of a cinematographer is while making a film. It should not harm viewers’ eyes and it should make them feel pleasant while watching a shot. Muthukumar has done justice to the project and every frame was good. DI colorist Karthik also did the part well and the way it complemented the frames in the script. Choosing a golden yellowish color which is a sign of warning throughout the film and feeling with dark shadow colors to make it as a dark element, the cinematographer and the DI complemented each other with their ideas. I also wish Murugan for his cooperation with this Theeranisi Tamil Short Film and his part.
Music director Balaji cleverly placed the music of the dark sound and it is very lite. It is not disturbing throughout the film. The dubbing was very clean and good. There was a scene where that little girl was eating biscuits and I can even hear the biscuit getting a crunching sound. That’s how the dubbing and mixing were at their best.
I need to appreciate Sharanshanmugam for his great work on this film as the editing was very clean and good. Half of the credits go to the director as well. The scenes are very clear, and the screenplay is good. So, the audience need not confuse the story. Sharanshanmugam made justice to his hard work.
Speaking about the actors, everyone did their role efficiently. Even the kid took this much effort and acted very well. For her age, this script is a huge thing. I appreciate Maanasha for her dedication. Others are equally complemented for the script.
The direction and the way the screen write-ups go, everything is fine and good. The film was good to watch, but the story or the context was not attractive that much as it became monotonous to watch. The content is good, the direction is good, as an audience who wants to watch a film can enjoy the film but as a critic, I need more from the story. An unsound person saving a girl from an old man is a good context. But the screenplay and the script are not enough to attract me because within the 20 minutes I cannot see the wow factor in this film. She was already raped by the old man and later she was rescued is what made me feel sad.
Few areas are very brilliant where the old man smells the cloth and way of his acting and makes him act like that and make the artist get what you need. a particular frame where the unsound person gets an axe from his waist dhoti. Where he gets that axe is a question mark! And another important frame where the blood flows through the girl’s leg. And even before that when the old man pulled the girl inside the room the bloodstain over the floor was very good. These frames are very brilliant and extraordinary to watch on the screen. And in the climax where the frame shows that the unsound person is a police officer before and I’m still confused why a police officer became an unsound person and why he is carrying an axe and how he found the old mans’ house. Also, in the end, there comes a piece of siren music and I was a bit confused about where it comes from. In the climax, a frame shows the ID card of the unsound person that he is a former police officer. These kinds of elements will surely confuse the audience and the team should be aware of how the audience approaches a scene. If the film goes on as abstract art, we can connect the siren to the climax. But, the film goes like a normal movie, so the siren is confused at the end.
Also, I need to know what is the core message that the film wants to convey. Is it saying that parents should take care of the children or it tells a story of an unsound person who is a former police officer? Here the plot was a bit confusing because of the strength of the script. The script has over-strength on the abusing part and a lack of focus on what it wants to convey through this child abuse. By watching the climax, I can only take the story of a former police officer who is now an unsound person but I cannot take that the film wants to give a message about child abuse and the parenting importance.
But overall, I can say the film satisfied me somewhat but as a critic, I expect more from the team in the script and the screenplay. Apart from a few critics, I enjoyed watching the film. Congrats to the team for making a good project.
