The extended cut re-release of Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed an estimated $6 million USD. During the holiday weekend, when American theatres offered cheap $3 tickets, the film returned to the top of the box office.

According to The Cinema Foundation, the first National Cinema Day worldwide campaign became the most-attended day of the year last weekend, with an estimated 8.1 million spectators. The one-day event was shown on over 30,000 screens and hosted in over 3,000 theatres, including major chains AMC and Regal Cinemas, with a preliminary box office return of 24.3 million US dollars.

National Cinema Day was created to fill theatres with moviegoers during Labor Day weekend, which is generally one of the industry’s worst weekends. The programme aimed to entice visitors to return in the fall by showing a preview of forthcoming films from major studios such as Disney, Lionsgate, Sony, and A24.

However, the other countries have tried a similar day of inexpensive movie tickets, but Saturday’s campaign was the first of its type on such a huge scale in the United States. National Cinema Day organisers believe the event may become an annual tradition.
The top three performing movie titles for the day were Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, The Rock and Kevin Hart’s DC League of Super Pets, and Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train. Another big draw was Spider-Man: No Way Home, which reclaimed the top box office slot for the weekend.
