The biopic “Alina of Cuba,” which is based on the life of Fidel Castro’s estranged daughter Alina Fernández, was unveiled by Deadline in Hollywood. James Franco, who is known for the films “Pineapple Express” and “This Is the End,” has been cast as the Cuban leader.
Widespread criticism of the casting of a white American actor in the role of a significant Latin American political figure has been expressed online, including some sharp criticism from the actor John Leguizamo.

Producer John Martinez O’Felan stated in a statement, “We took Fidel Castro’s historic Galician heraldry as our focal compass, and then looked through the full ranks of performers with Latin ancestry in Hollywood to locate someone who has a comparable facial structure.”

Those engaged in the movie have gone to considerable lengths to emphasise this. Fernández endorsed the choice to cast James Franco in her own words. She claimed that, in addition to his abilities and charisma, James Franco bears a striking physical resemblance to Fidel Castro.
