After being involuntarily discharged from the Army, a special forces sergeant is hired by a private underground military group. When his first deployment goes awry, the elite soldier finds himself pursued and on the run, caught up in a hazardous plot and battling to remain alive long enough to return home and learn the true motivations of those who betrayed him.

The Contractor, starring Chris Pine, is a well-made actioner with a simple plot, excellent performances, and powerful action sequences. Ben Foster, Kiefer Sutherland, and Gillian Jacobs have also performed admirably. The action sequences are solid and realistically done, with some surprises guaranteed. The background music blends in seamlessly with the action, and the editing is precise enough to keep the tale on track.
