About Identiti Malayalam Short Film:

Understanding the core: Love the way how we are always.

Appreciation and critic:

A big round of applause for the whole team for making this film. This film is one of the greatest films that I ever watched. The idea of the script is very unique. We already know how GVM makes his film. Mostly it will have voice-overs and few narrations. This film is one of its kind. The idea of narrating a story with a voice-over and the choice of the voice is very good.

Identiti Malayalam Short Film starts with a story of a girl and her solitudes. The story at the start explained the character of the protagonist. The First frame explains the scenario. The word Psychology on the board explains the scenario very well. We can see a teacher is teaching about psychology with the story to the students. In this scene, we can see a frame where it is focused on students while some of them looking at the board and some of them looking at the lens. And the frame is a slightly right indent which made the frame bit odd. I felt this particular frame is not suitable.

The idea of the narrating story along with the scenes is very impressive. Every frame in this film from the beginning is very attractive at the same time arranged in deep meaning.

Identiti Malayalam Short Film is about a girl who is having a disease – AIDS. So the professor is explaining how the girl was being there in her school days. The frame and the color of the screen were very attractive and caught my eyes. The transition and the effect of the frame are very unique.

The story starts when the protagonist has grown up and had a love story. The dialogue before introducing the love story was fantabulous. She is also a human it is natural for her to have a love story. That’s how the story giving us a message that people who have HIV are as same as us. We should not differentiate them from us. The protagonist used to live in dark, be alone and silent. It resembles the lives of those who are infected by the same disease.

In this film, the solitude state was explained very well. One of the students stands and asks the professor to explain that how can an introvert come outside. The professor replies that she is not an introvert, but be in a solitary state. She is admiring and listening to the world being silent.

The plot starts here when the protagonist fell in love with her classmate Varun. Being a solitary girl falling in love it’s not as easy as we think. That is what is explained in this movie. Protagonist creating a Facebook ID with a fake name and started searching for the boy named Varun. So she started speaking through chat and Varun also started chatting with her. If you noticed minutely we can see that this film used Foley sound elements. The Foley elements lift the screen and made the screen presents even more realistic and impressive.

Every dialogue in this film was very unique and made justice to the script. From the keypad sounds, each sound is recreated and mixed with effects which made the audio more attractive. Even we can hear the Facebook notification sound. So every time the sound design engineer has to add notification sound whenever she receives the notification. Behind that the professor giving voices to the story that in what state that the protagonist is. When she created a fake account becomes another personality came into her. The film gave a piece of information about dual personality. When the professor said this term dual personality the student cracked a joke about “Ganga” character in a film called “Manichitrathazhu”. Professor keeps on explaining the protagonist’s psychological state those two personalities are living inside her. The one which talks to Varun had a bright ambiance and the real character Pooja had a dark ambiance. The character definition between these two elements is very clear and presented in a very great manner.

Suddenly the screen moves with the meet-up between Varun and Riya. The screen also explains that it has been 2 months since they started talking and Varun wants to meet Riya. The protagonist also accepted to meet him. Here, the greatest part of this movie is when she opens the restaurant door, she saw the reflection of hers in the restaurant door and stopped approaching him. At that point, she realized that she came there as Riya and not as the original character of herself – Pooja. So with fear and disappointment, she returned to her home. She was in hurry and was tense to delete the fake Facebook account, but He still, wants to keep another personality which is a brighter one alive. The professor was explaining the scene by scene in voiceover which is very attractive and made it even clearer for the audience to understand what exactly happens to the protagonist. So the professor explains that this kind of mentality which is the brighter one wants to be there and keep the character alive. So she took back her decision from deleting her Riya account. The artists also acted very well to convey that in the screen.

The protagonist was standing at the beach. The place is like a rock pathway where it ends at the sea down there. Here the professor explains to their students that the protagonist wanted her bright side character to be alive but doesn’t want her original character to be.

The professor tells his students that the protagonist killed her original character. The frame is focused on the protagonist where she’s standing center in the frame and suddenly we can hear a voice from nowhere calling the protagonist’s name. The camera turns right and again when it came back to its position, there the protagonist missing. We can assume it like the protagonist jump into the water. A professor says it is a murder that in dual personality, a dominant personality is killing the weaker ones. For the public, it is suicide but for us, it is murder. This is how he concluded to his students. The last frame and the professor’s smile were a highlight in this film. Without that smile, the dialogue wouldn’t have an effect on us.

The professor and the team concludes by saying a golden statement “Be yourself, that is beautiful”

The whole film is a great creation if you ask me would you suggest this film to your friends. Bro… I already did. I loved this film. Except for one area which is at the beginning, everything was fine & great.
